Rooh

Oil Diffuser

Scent diffusers are widely used across India. They hold deep cultural and spiritual significance. The word Rooh, meaning “spirit” in Urdu, reflects this essence by engaging the sense of smell.

Inspired by motifs from the High Court at Chandigarh, this diffuser features a grid base that transitions into flowing, organic flowing lines ending in petal-like tips, evoking floral jalis (decorative lattice screens) found in traditional Indian architecture.

The piece embodies the hybridity of India's hybridity of India's cultural narrative, blending historic forms with post-independance modernism by merging architectural motifs. The undulating lines also mirror the gentle movement of diffused scents, reinforcing the sensory and symbolic nature of the object.
