Reconvergence

Mirror

The mirror is an object of self-reflection, literally and symbolically as a meditation on the complexities of identity. Its form fragments ornamental celestial and vegetal jali (Indo-Islamic lattice screens) patterns, interwoven with organic lines that flow between them.

The flowing lines depict the convergence and dispersion of cultural contexts - how influences of tradition and modernity merge, shift and evolve over time.

The off-centered negative space is a distorted mihrab - the iconic archway commonly found between columns in Indo-Islamic architecture. This fragmented mihrab becomes a window for reflection.
